Files, drives and a few good questions

How does Sain help when a Mac disk won’t eject?

Sain lists the processes and file paths visible with your current permissions. Save your work, confirm quitting supported apps, then retry the normal system eject. System processes or files still in use may need manual attention. Sain does not repair damaged disks or force-eject them.

Which Macs does Sain support?

Sain supports Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Once installed, press ⇧⌘F to open the search panel.

Are my files uploaded?

File search, indexing and content recognition run locally without uploading your files. License purchases and app update checks require an internet connection.

What can I search?

Search file names with pinyin, wildcards and query filters. Enable image and document content search in Settings to find text in screenshots, photos, PDFs, Office documents, Markdown and plain-text files.

Can I search a drive after unplugging it?

Search currently supports connected external drives with indexing enabled. Connect a drive to search the files stored on it.

What about unsaved work when quitting an app?

Save your work before confirming. Sain uses normal app termination and system eject operations. If an app is still using the drive or cannot quit normally, you may need to resolve it manually and try again.

Is this a subscription?

Sain is a US$9.99 one-time purchase with future updates included. After payment, you receive a credential for downloads and in-app updates. File name search, content search and external drive management are all included.

How do I install Sain?

Download and unzip Sain, then drag it into Applications. Version 1.0.0 is Developer ID signed but not yet notarized by Apple. On first launch, you may need to select Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Grant file access as requested by the app.
